Design, Build and Control of a Fixed-Wing VTOL vehicle

The “QuadPlane” is a Hybrid Quadcopter-Aircraft system which is capable of taking off and landing vertically and transitioning to forward flight for cruising. In “VTOL” mode, the QuadPlane uses the four vertical trust motors; in “Transition” mode, the vehicle holds altitude using the four vertical thrust motors while the forward thrust motor revs up until the transition velocity is achieved; and in the “Cruise” mode, the vehicle behaves like a conventional fixed-wing aircraft where only the front motor is spinning.

Development and flight testing is in progress currently to make the “Transition” mode smoother and safer.
